Mother's Day Celebration 2010
As part of the school's vision... A Montfortian. A Man for Others, we want to teach the boys t0 show their appreciation to the woman they love most...their MOTHER. MJPC held a brief powerpoint presentation for Mothers with TAZAN.."You will be in my heart" soundtrack. The boys were also taught 10 easiest ways to celebrate Mother's Day and also how to make a bookmark for their mothers.

On behalf of MJPC, we would like to wish all Mothers.....A blessed Mother's Day. Thank you all for making all the sacrifices for the family.

MJPC Election for NEW Comittee Members 2010
Dear Parents,
Please note that there will be an election for new committee members on the 22 May (Sat) 8 -9am at the school library. We encourage you to attend the meeting and find out more about parental involvement in Montfort Junior. More importantly, we hope that you can join us as committee members to plan, organise and coordinate activities for the boys. We are looking for both Mangement Personnels as well as Homemakers to join us in a wide varieties of volunteer services required.We believe in partnership with the school and we have seen the benefits of the collaborative efforts between the school and parents..

Request for parent volunteers for Post Exam Financial Literacy Programme for P1 and P2

Dear Parents,
MJS will be embarking on a Financial Literacy (FL) programme for our P1, 2 as part of the post-exam programme. The FL programme will be based on the Junior Achievement programme that originated in the USA. We are looking for volunteers to join the school in this programme on the Thurs 20 and Fri 21 of May between 8 - 10am. There will be a briefing and training for parents on Fri 7 May 10 -11.30am in School. The teacher in charge is Sheila. We need our 15 volunteers to help out in the P1 and P2 classes. If you are interested and want to find out more about this programme, do call the school for her or you may leave your email to me at amoschoy@pacific.net.sg.

Dear parents... Kindly take note of the Calendar for Term 2. (at the side of the blog) A number of important dates to take note especially the Open House and Founder's Day on the 24 April. Do make a point to come and be amazed at our vibrant programs in the school. You may help to promote our Open House to your relatives, colleques, friends etc. We will also be having 2 Mondays of No School on 26 April and 3 May. And finally, the SA is coming too in May. (time to shift gear)

I hope that the calendar on the blog will useful and help you to check on the important dates and to plan and schedule your time.

Montfort Junior School Featured in Dads for Life Movement Launched by Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (1 April 2010)

3 cheers for Montfort Junior School. For the past 7 years since 2004, Montfort Junior's Father's Wing has been active in promoting father & son acttivities such as Street Soccer, Badminton, e-gaming and many adhoc events such as the latest Movie Night. Since MJ is a all boy's school, it is natural that fathers play a very important role in the developement of the boys.It is also one of the objectives of the Father's Wing to promote bonding among fathers and son through talks and activities.

This year marks a new chapter in the Fathering Movement with the official launch of the Dads for Life movement by our Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on April 1 at Northview Primary School.

We are proud that our Chairman Mr Amos Choy was one of the guest speakers to represent Montfort Junior at the launch. He shared with the other prinicpals and PSG representitives about the success story at MJ. We would not have been recognised if not for all the hard work by the parents volunteers in collaborating with the school.

MJ Father & Son Movie Night - Launch of Dads for Life Movement
What a night.... about 400 fathers and son jammed packed 2 fully booked halls to watch "How To Train Your Dragon" movie yesterday night. It was indeed heartening to see so many boys and fathers sharing quality time together and bonding with each other. It was a special moment where the boys could feel they are important and special as their fathers took effort to spend time with them. Many Dads cancelled their other appointments to commit time and attention to their boys.

Our principal Ms Genevieve Chye came to witness the event and this marked the official launch of the Dads for Life Movement in Montfort Junior School.

Well done dads. Thank you for making this night a memorable one for the boys. I am happy that the boys enjoyed their "date" with their fathers. One boy asked me in School this monring.... Uncle Amos when is the next movie??????

MJ Father & Son Street Soccer
Thank you all for making this event one of the most successful event ever. More than 120 families came to enjoy a morning of Father & Son Street Soccer. 9 courts were opened in the School's New Indoor Sport Hall and Outdoor Coutyard where fathers and sons have fun kicking the ball. At the end of the event, we had the fathers playing against each other to show off their skills in the Charity match. Indeed, it was also a wonderful opportunity for Montfort Junior and St. Gabriel's Primary School to come together as one brother school to play street soccer.At the end of the day, all boys were rewarded with a GOLD trophy. They were taught the spirit of Olympism... spirit of respect, friendship and excellence in them. Yes, no matter what, they will always remember the school motto Age Quod Agis....Do well in Whatever you do. Well done boys.

Thank you fathers for taking off time to play with you sons. One boy came to me at the end and asked me if we can play again next week......he really enjoyed the precious moments with his dad.

MJ Father & Son Movie Night Results...
Dear Fathers. Thank you all for the wonderful support. I hate to disappoint fathers and son attending the movie.As such I have cracked my head to lessen the disappointment by booking another bigger hall for the movie.With this I can add another 100 pairs of fathers and sons to the movie. I have also requested my son to let go his tickets so that those on the waiting list can go.

The names of boys successful are displayed on the PSG notice board outside the Gym or Canteen. The collection and payment of tickets will be next Monday during recess time at the Lego room. Kindly hand $4 to your son. For those with brothers, they need only to pay $6 for 3 tickets. It will be free seating arrangement. This means you can seat where you want. There will be 2 halls booked for you. There will be signs up to give directions. Kindly ensure that your son do not lose the ticket.

You are requested to arrive early at 7pm at Eng Wah Cinema (Toa Payoh) 31 March Wednesday. Remember to bring your tickets.For those who cannot come, do let me know so that I can pass the tickets to others on the waiting list.

Do make good use of this opportunity to bond with your son and create wonderful memories with him..

OVERWHELMING RESPONSE for Movie Night
Dear Fathers...

Within 3 minutes from 8pm. All tickets have been booked. The number of application is 3 times the available tickets. My handphone almost gave up . Results of those successful will be displayed on the PSG board at the canteen on Friday.I hate to turn away fathers who want to bring their son to the movie. What's more with their friends. Uncle Amos had a very bad headache this morning. But I will take out my calculator and with my financial skill to work something out and seek for more funds. I cannot promise anything but I will do my best. Age quod Agis right? Wait for good news.

Thank you all for the wonderful support in this event. Who can say that we do not have loving fathers in Montfort Junior. We are definitely DADs for Life.

Montfort Junior Father & Son Movie Night (31 July 2010 - 7pm)

Dear Fathers...

MJPC is proud to present to you the very first MOVIE NIGHT planned for you and your boy. There is nothing you can compare with when you share magical moments together. It is a great opportunity to bond with your son and to share common views about the movie.

However, limited tickets are available. I have took great courage to book to whole hall with 174 seats. That means only 87 pairs of tickets are available. The cost of the ticket for 2 is only $4. What? Yes, the cost of the tickets are subsidized by DADs for Life movement fund. This means that we have to go for first come first serve basis. Parents will have to SMS me on 24 March from 8pm onwards to book the tickets. The boys have been briefed this morning and small pamplets have been given to them.

Thank you and do look out for more interesting events organized by the MJPC.

FAREWELL TO MDM CHUA
Dear Parents and boys....

It is really a blessing from God that Mdm Chua was assigned to Montfort Junior in 2007. Since then she has been with us for more than 3 years!!! Mdm Chua, like Mrs Cheong, is a very motherly person. She loves the boys very much just as her own. Many times when I visited the school, I can see her engaging the boys... checking on them and caring for them.
She is also the most HUMBLE person I have ever met. When we compliment her, she would always put the credit on the teachers and the boys. It is very sad that she is leaving us....and we will definitely miss her. She has left a great impression on all of us.... teachers, boys and parents. Her contribution to the school will not be forgotten. Once a Montfortian, will always be a Montfortian. Mdm Chua, God bless you and we wish you all the best.

Recruitment of New MJPC Active Members for new term 2010
Dear Parents.... Thank you very much for your interest in coming forward to volunteer your services to the school. At present, we have about 35 active volunteers serving out in the various daily duties. We hope to expand the number of helpers to 60.

The daily duties include recess time duties from 9.30 to 11am for Library and Lego games room. As for Learning Support Progam, it is from 7.30am to 8am. You may serve once or twice a week.

We also need parents, who are working full time, to help up in the management of the MJPC. We need new parents to meet once a term to plan for activities and help up in adhoc school functions like sports day and teacher's day.. We hope that you can also take up the challenge to volunteer as Committee Members to run MJPC. An election for the new commitee members will be held in March this year.

Donation of Board Games
Dear Parents... We would like to request for parents to donate board games for our Lego (Playroom) Room. Currently, most of the board games have lost pieces. The Lego room which is also the SFE room is run by the MJ Parents' Connection. We hope to revamp the room to allow more boys to play during their recess time.

The items we would like to request are:
1) English Chess (4 sets)
2) Multi Board games set. (checkers, snakes and ladder etc) (4 sets)
3) Carom Boards (2 sets)
4) Connect 4 (4 sets)
5) Unno (4 sets)
6) Mini Master Mind (4 sets)

Tea Session with Principal (30th Jan Sat) 8.30 - 10.30am
Dear parents...
You are invited to attend a short tea session with the school and the MJPC. This is a wonderful opportunity to find out more about the school and how parents can play a vital role in the school.

As parents we love our children and want the best for them. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than the happiness of our children. We need to play a more proactive role in helping our children. The school is perhaps their second home where they grow up and we parents can play significant role in their developmenent. The primiary school life is also a period of time where parents role is more prominent. Our little friends need us more than ever.

We hope that you will not miss this important session. Your presence will definitely make a difference to the well being of your son. We also treasure your views, suggestions and feedback to make Montfort Junior the best school in Singapore.

Chinese New Year Decorations & Lantern Making Competition 2010
The School is like a second home to the boys. As such we would like to request parents to donate Chinese New Year decorations to the school. We want the boys to be proud of their school and the decorations will benefit 1000 over boys to enhance the CNY mood. Each of you can play a part as we are one in a family. The collection will be on Mon 25 and Tue 26 Jan. morning at the side gate and canteen. We will put the decorations up immediately. You may wish to join us to put up the decorations as well.

There will also be a lantern making competition this year. Boys are encouraged to design and build thier lantern with the supervision of their parents. The lanterns will be proudly displayed along the school corridors. Look out for details in the memo.

It was truly a very wounderful 2 days of orientation for the our new P1 parents. Beside getting the exclusive visit to their son classroom, the parents also got some tips on helping thier son adjust to P1 from the MJ Parents' Connection. The parents were very much impressed with the friendiness, encouragement and support they got from the school. Every effort is being made to enusre that their sons are being well taken care of. Our litte friends will soon get to adjust to the new environment and get to know thier claasmates and their teacher. In the meanwhile, each boy is being assisted by thier buddy. Dear P1Parents....
Hello 2010. The MJPC would like to welcome the new P1 parents. Do take note that there will be 2 days of programs for you. (4-5 Feb) We encourgage you to take a more acitive role in helping your son to adjust in P1. Your son will take some time to fit into the routine and it will be great if parents can support him and guide him. We want our sons not just to do well academically, but to be HAPPYas well. A happy child will learn better and the good values they pick up during the childhood and in school will make a big difference to the MAN we want him to be in future.
We are certain that MONTFORT will provide him the holistic developement that the school aims to achieve. Attention all Montfort Junior Dads !!!
Dears fathers, it is time for us to show our support to our son. MJ is supporting the "Back to School with Dad 2010" initiative by Centre of Fathering and Health Promotion Board. Fathers are encouraged to accompany their son to school at least ONCE during the first week of the fresh school year (Jan 4-8, 2010).

The school will be setting up stations to take photograph of you with your son at the side gate and front gate of the school. It is important that every father contribute to this initiative as we encourage one another to be more involved in our son's school-life.

We aim to target 300 photographs. So each one of us plays an important role in achieving this target. Come on, we can do it... we are the Montfortians !!!

MJ Family Badminton Challenge 2009
What a day!!! More than 100 families came and participated in the event organised for them. Father, Mothers, Grandfather, Grandmothers, Sisters, Brothers.....all came to make it their family outing and have fun. Enjoying the most - the P1 parents and boys (first time participating)... "We didn't know that this event is SO BIG"!!! My sister is so jealous of my school. We are so PROUD of Montfort Junior. We will definitely join the event next year." It is such a heart warming feeling to see families smiling, bonding and cheerishing every moment together. All the effort is worth it. Families went home happy with goodies bag from our sponsor Li-Ning.

100 families have already signed up for this highly anticipated event of the year. We are sorry that we will NOT accept any more new signups as we have only limited 100 goodies bags.

For those who have signed up, do take note of the following:
1) Plse come punctually. Registration is 8am at the new Montfort Indoor Sports Hall. You may come early and we have courts for you to warm up for fun.
2) Only the side gate will be opened. For those driving, you may park at the HDB carparks beside the side gate.
3) We have requested that the canteen stall be open for you to take breakfast if you have not done so.
4) Do wear NON-MARKING Shoes or School Shoes to the event. You do not need to wear School P.E attire for this event.
5) You may invite the WHOLE family to come and make it a FAMILY OUTING. Grandma and Grandpa are welcomed !!!
6) The event will end by 11.30am. For those who need to go off early, plse let me know.
7) For those who are not able to turn up and have paid for the event....we will refund the money to you.
8) Most important of all..... Lets' have fun and support our sons. Do take this opportuntiy to create beautiful MEMORIES for ourselves. Priceless.

Montfort Junior Children's Day Celebration 2009

What a memorable day indeed for the boys in MJ. The boys were treated to Fun Day of Games Carnival by the PE department. Excitement can be seen on their faces as they RACE to complete the different stations of challenging games.

Atmosphere in the school reached climax, when BATMAN... yes the cape crusader... made a special appearence to the school in representing the MJ Parents' Connection to present a donation of $350 to the school for needy boys. Miss Chye, Principal of MJ received the donation on behalf of the school. The message is clear, the boys were reminded to spare a thought for the needy friends and to share their blessings with them. HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY !

Principal Tea Session with Parents...26 April 2009

Parents had a great time with the Principal Ms Chye and VP Mdm Chua at the School Library this morning. The session started off with Mr. Amos Choy (Chairman of MJPC) helping parents to better understand the role and mission of MJPC. This is followed by message by Ms Chye as she shared with parents her desire to work closely with parents and the new direction for the school. Before breaking off for refreshments, opportunity was given to parents to give their feedbacks to the school. In the end, all felt that the session was very enjoyable and informative. For those who missed out in this tea session, not to worry, there will be a next one early next year with the new intake of P1 Parents.

Dear parents...
As you have already received memo from school about this event, I would like to strongly encourage you to make an effort to attend this tea session.

This is an important session as we as parents come together, one united, to make a difference in the lives of our boys. Your presence would mean that you are interested to find out more about the Principal's plan for the school, as well as the activities that is being planned by MJPC for you.

We need to continue build a strong community of parents to help one another. The school has considered us as PARTNERS and so we must do our part to support the school.

Teacher's Day Celebration 2009 (31 Aug 2009)

Once again, parents and boys put up a fantastic Teacher's Day Celebration for Montfort Junior teachers and staff. The theme for this year's celebration was "Thanks to You". Indeed this was an opportunity to express our love and gratitude to all teachers and staff.

Beside receiving gifts from home made potpourri from the moms, the teachers also received a special made home DVD photo montage along with the theme song. The highlight of the day was a special Indian Dance presentation by the moms. The teachers also had fun playing "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader". All participated teachers got to bring home a winning trophy.

Punggol Park Picnic (9 Sept 2009)

MJ Mothers met for a potluck picnic in the afternoon at Punggol Park. This is one of the way the moms can DE STRESS during the September School Holidays by sharing the sumptuous spread of FOOOOD.
